Quartz Safety and Responsibility
Commitment to Safe and Responsible Use
At GoSource, we are committed to supporting safe and responsible use of our materials. While GoSource does not fabricate or install stone or quartz products, we recognize that these processes can involve health and safety risks. This page provides key information and resources to promote safe practices and compliance with applicable workplace safety standards.
Silica Safety
Fabrication and installation of quartz and other stone materials can generate respirable crystalline silica (SiO₂) — fine dust particles small enough to enter deep into the lungs. Prolonged exposure to respirable silica without proper controls may cause serious or fatal illnesses, including silicosis, lung cancer, and other respiratory diseases.
GoSource does not perform fabrication or installation.
Contractors, fabricators, and installers are solely responsible for implementing appropriate safety and engineering controls to minimize exposure to silica dust. This includes:
- Using wet cutting, grinding, and polishing methods to suppress dust
- Ensuring local exhaust ventilation and adequate air filtration systems
- Conducting regular air monitoring to assess exposure levels
- Providing and enforcing the use of NIOSH-approved respiratory protection and personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Training workers on the hazards of silica and compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1926.1153 and NIOSH guidance
Proper adherence to these safety measures helps protect workers, maintain regulatory compliance, and promote a healthy, sustainable workplace.
